Our One Book, One Mesa County was off to a great start on January 24th. Thanks to those of you who attended! Jazz trombonist and Assistant Professor of Low Brass at CMU, Sean Flanigan, described the jazz club settings and sounds of the late 1930's. While Sean played several recordings, he also provided us with his knowledge and insight - describing the differences of music meant for high-society gatherings, that meant for dancing, and that of small, intimate club nightlife. Sean also described the importance of improvisation to jazz, and how jazz has evolved. To learn more about jazz, pick up CD's, DVD's, or books here at the Library, and get immersed in the sound. You can also check out Amor Towles' website, for a playlist selected by the author.Thursday, January 26, 2012
